Trend Watch: The Art of Scarfing
Posted in Trend Watch and tagged with Trend Watch on 11/17/2009 04:03 pm by Recessionista PartyIt’s a delight to receive the latest fashion advice from, not one, but two of my fashion gurus. Savvy Stylista was introduced last week and gave the approval to go for the gold and welcome back the 80’s by pairing hoop earrings and bangles with a trendy knit cap. And boy did she hit the nail on the head with that one. We sold out twice and have since been scrambling to restock our goods. Fortunately, we will introduce some different styles soon.
My second fashionista is Twiggy (known for her highly desired lean legs) and trend-setting style. She can easily make a statement without even trying. In fact, I think her neighbors are all slightly jealous of her impeccable natural style. Not only does she have the legs to die for but the hair to match: long, dark and luscious with enough natural curl to add the perfect bounce. Again, we’d love to hate her but we don’t.
Interestingly enough, they both had very similar things to say which, in my opinion, means they’re onto something.
2009 is the year of the scarf, largely in part of our national trend-setting celebrities. From Jessica Alba to Michelle Obama and even Brad Pitt, scarves have adorned every wardrobe. They are an amazing accessory that work regardless of one’s personal style or look. Likewise, they’re extremely affordable. Adding a scarf is a great way to update any wardrobe and add a little flair to an otherwise bland outfit. The biggest rule with scarves, like any accessory, is to have it compliment, not compete with, other apparel. If wearing patterns, wear a solid scarf and when wearing solids, wear a colorful scarf full of zing. Also, keep in mind that the petite individual should never wear a scarf that overwhelms one’s size.
How to wear a scarf:
- The knotted look is simple and accomplished by folding the scarf in half length-wise, wrapping it around the neck and pulling the loose ends through the loop made by the fold. This way will nicely tuck inside a winter coat. The knot size can be adjusted to fit the style or mood.
- The looped scarf is one that works best with a longer scarf. Lay the scarf across the back of the neck, leaving one side longer and wrapping that side around the neck once or twice. Again, the loops can be adjusted to fit an individual style.
- The loose knot is achieved by wrapping the scarf around the neck and tying it once.
Be creative and experiment with the scarves you own and don’t be afraid to try a different style.
