Splash into Summer with a Retro Swimsuit

With fashion you’ve got to stay one season ahead. With that being the case, we are heading into swimsuit season.  Don’t panic– I have nothing but good news for the lovers and not-so-much-lovers of Summer.

Some of us love the blazing hot warm sun on our faces (if you’re one of those, don’t forget to wear sunscreen!) and the sand in our pants between our toes. While I love the change of seasons, I could definitely live without baring it all on the beach, but this year will be different!

The itty bitty bikini is a thing of the past. Retro swim suits have been making a comeback for years and this year I think I’ll be getting on the wagon. Retro styles come in cute and classy looks and the best part is they provide coverage for the modest woman! Let’s face it, none of us are getting any younger and while I am all for embracing our hot bods, the modest swim suits are so classic and lovely. I haven’t made my retro swim suit purchase yet, but I have been working on a little inspiration for those of you who are considering taking the plunge.

What’s your favorite retro style? If you’ve already embraced the retro swimsuit trend, where did you purchase your suit? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments!

Friday Fashionspiration

I know that Spring just started, but the news about Summer fashion trends is floating around and I can hardly handle the excitement. The neon trend from last Summer continues and it’s even better than ever. As soon as I heard, I painted my nails in neon pink and went to hang out by the pool. If you’re not quite ready to slip into a neon yellow dress , you can ease yourself into it with neon polish and brightly colored accessories.

Bright colors – especially neon – are so often neglected. They are abandoned to forever be associated with the 80’s, but I say bring it back. Color is a way of expressing yourself and if you love a color you shouldn’t be freaked out to wear it.

While there is a long standing myth that certain skin tones can’t wear certain colors (ahem – my olive skin tone in an orange shirt is not the most flattering thing you’ve ever seen), if you really love a color that doesn’t flatter you, find other ways to wear it. Typically there is only an unflattering contract when you wear too much of a color or you wear it too close to your face.

If a neon yellow top is not for you try wearing neon yellow in these other fabulous ways…
Your handbag
Bracelets
Shoes (Hello hot yellow shoes!)
Shorts (Can you handle it? I think so!)

Relaxing in style

Things have been so chaotic around these parts (hence, no blog posts lasts week) that the only kind of fashion I can think of is the kind you do with an eye mask on and classical music playing in the background. Whether your style is girlish charm or vampy vixen, slipping into pajamas that are actually pajamas, rather than your husband’s old tee, can make you feel pretty– even if it’s only for a few minutes before you doze off.

Nail Polish: To match or not to match?

Our Who Wore it Best Nail Polish Edition went over quite well this week.  You and I both know that, in most cases, your nail polish is peeling after day 3. With that being the case, I figured we could use a fresh coat.

Since the invention of nail polish, the great debate has been to match or not to match your nail polish to your clothing. (I may have made up the fact that this debate has gone on since the invention of nail polish, but I’m sure you ladies know exactly what I’m talking about!)

In my experience, no one can be bothered with matching nail polish to their clothing unless it’s for a special occasion.

Personally, I have never been too matchy matchy. I have a love hate relationship with this green polish photo. I love the photo, but I am not quite sure I would love to rock the look.  You can usually find me wearing dark blues and purples or classic reds and pinks.

Flats are in for Spring

Imagine my joyous response on a rainy Tuesday morning when – while on my search for fashion news- I found that flats are officially in style for Spring! Naturally, I wear flats regardless of whether or not they are in style. No matter how much I write about fashion, comfort trumps all. But when I get to have fashion and comfort…well it’s a cause for celebration!

And I quote

“The detailed and embellished ballet flats, sandals and peep-toes are a serious alternative to the high heels that some women still feel are needed for dressy or business occasions.”

I know that some of you ladies can rock pumps all week long. More power to you! But this recent announcement is cause to revamp my shoe closet in favor of comfort and fashion! But first I needed some inspiration. Here are a few of my favorite finds…

A little Spring in your step or on your headband

I know that most of the country is months away from the gorgeous Spring weather that even the most passionate snowbirds start to long for. While most of us can’t exactly slip into a Spring dress just yet, you can make it feel a little more like Spring with a floral headband. We regularly discuss the joys of headbands and now we’re adding one more joy to the list. A floral headband can make it feel like Spring, even when we haven’t quite seen the last of Winter!

Where are your purchasing your floral headbands? Do you have some other secrets to making it feel just a little bit warmer, even if only in the fashion sense? Tell us in the comments!
