I’m excited to introduce you to a fellow Recessionista Reader and creator behind enSYTLEpedia, a blog dedicated to helping you make the most of your current wardrobe.  Take it over Christa…

Hi Recessionista’s! I’m excited to bring you a little bit of enSTYLEpedia today – let’s get started!
I’m all about bringing new life to your current wardrobe and the best way to do that
(without spending tons of cash) is through accessories.
Lucky for us we have Recessionista and they have fun accessories (at amazing prices) constantly.
So how do you take an outfit to the next level?Recessionista Pic1

Everyone has a plain tee and jeans, right?
This vibrant statement necklace screams

“Spring i love you, what took you so long?!”

Add the sandal wedges, (hello sexy mama!) you have the “next level”.
Speaking of spring… is that spring dress calling your name? Yeah, me too.

Want a new way to rock that spring dress?

DENIM.

but not in a jacket or on your legs…in your shoes…

Sounds 90’s but trust me, with the right style you can rock this trend.

Recessionista-Spring Flair

Fun, flirty and sooooo cute, this headband can become your staple pop-of-color.

If that looks is out of your comfort zone, what about keeping it classic and cool with black and white?  Recessionista- B,S,POP

Playdate, errands, picnic, PTA -you can wear this look to all of these and more and what’s more fun than colorful nail polish? It makes everyone smile.

These accessories really are classic and you will find yourself wearing them constantly.  It’s my experience, that nothing can make you look more put together quicker than earrings and having a pair that goes with everything is key

silver and gold go with everything you own, get a pair of each,

really, right now!

when you’re wearing a shirt that has some great detail
you don’t want to overwhelm the beauty of the shirt with a necklace
so turn to a great cuff bracelet

Recessionista-Silver&Gold
This adds some shine to your outfit
you can show off your personal style with a cuff you love
and you’ll look so put together!

one more simple solution to looking great without a lot of time
(let’s face it, we’re all pretty busy at times)
The Recessionista Jeans!
They are beautiful all on their own.
The embellishments on the pockets are gorgeous and they are cut to flatter and come in great styles.

Recessionista- Jeans
Truly, a 5 minute solution to a busy morning.
awesome jeans
check
your favorite tee
check
staple earrings (silver or gold)
check.
You could go casual with some great flats or sandals during the day
and for a date night, throw on some sexy heels or wedges,
could these jeans be any more helpful?
I think not.

Well ladies, you’re on your way to breathing new life to you wardrobe.
It’s amazing how great a new necklace, bracelet or earrings can make you feel
and Recessionista has the prices we need on our tightening budgets.

We are gorgeous, confident women, we are Recessionista’s.

When or Why Do You Shop?

Depression Shopping

Hi everyone! First off this is Angela from Mommy PR. I tend to straggle my little end over here to Recessionista Party every so often, and today i wanted to share some points of a story i came across and get your opinion on it.

So i was “google”ing and “bing”ing around the “internets” (sorry always wanted to say that)… i kept trying to find information on “What Are Women Splurging On In The Recession”. I figured i would find stories on how moms cut back on steak, or reused panty hose for potting plants. (<– Dont you judge me lol).

Well instead i came across the SAME article several several times. (Either these people interviewed the same women, or we have a super story on our hands….). I want to get your opioion on these findings. This was dated for May 2009, so consider your answer to be relevant of one year later.

A survey, carried out by Karen Pine, Professor from the University of Hertfordshire and the author of Sheconomics, revealed that 79 per cent of women reported that they would go on a spending spree in order to cheer themselves up. Out of the 700 women who took part in the survey, 4 out of 10 (40 per cent) said that it was ‘depression’, and 6 out of 10 (60 per cent) named ‘feeling a little bit low’, to be the main reason for them to throw some cash on the clothes that they do not really need and spend extra money on.

Almost 50 per cent of the British ladies admitted that recession made them feel scared or even terrified, while 45 per cent said that their financial situation had taken a serious hit because of the recession and crisis in the economy. The survey also found that the three quarters of the women have already considered cutting back on spending money in the nearest future. But the overwhelming majority expressed the opinion that shopping has the power to make them feel much better.

Professor Pine and her colleagues came to the conclusion that some women use shopping in order regulate their emotions and keep them under control, they use it as a way of dealing with negative feelings or dissatisfaction with life. The experts said that this ability to be in control of one’s emotions is critical for mental and physical well-being and human beings adopt a variety of possibilities of doing so, such as using drugs and alcohol, for example. Shopping appears to be one of these methods that has increasingly been adopted by many women. So worrying about finances could, no matter how paradoxically it may sound, lead women to spend more.

Is your face puzzled?? Mine was! But then i have to look back.. shoot they are right! With my hubby gone so much (military), i DO tend to migrate to those “Super Saturday Sales” more often when i need a pick me up emotionally. Hum.

{Oh and just for the record, after living in Italy for 4 years, im sure that those British ladies make more than us, so i would probably spend their money faster in a 12-18 month deployment lol.}

So what about you? Are you more of a shop when you want to gal? Eat a bowl of your moms super famous, feel good, chicken noodle soup? Or check the balance on that maxed out credit card, cause your in the mood to shop instead of cry? (and if your the “my BF just broke up with me but forgot his credit card at my house” type girl.. here is the link to the wonderful Recessionista Party Shop).

Fashionistas.. tell me your views. Its 2010. How is your economy? Still shopping and very thankful for places like Recessionista Party?

What have you kept the same and what have you changed (shopping wise).

{Talk about YOU, not your husband or kids.. Its all about the ladies today}

Ps- I will still be shopping!! I will say that i have changed WHERE i shop. I love my Coach, but i like it even better when i can put more money in it , than what i spend on it. (hint– Buy Coach At Recessionista Party!)

Thanks for your time ladies! You can visit me anytime over at Mommy PR and of course i will pop in on Recessionista Party! I look forward to your answers!

Guest post and an online party recap

We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas Day and are still savoring the sweet magical moments that accompany this time of year. Today, I would like to introduce you to Laura from Chasing Education with her professional take on hosting a Recessionista online party/shopping event. We tested out online parties a few weeks ago and are still working out a few details but exciting things are on the way. Should you be interested in more information regarding online parties/shopping events, send an email my way.

And now I give you Laura……

As a marketing manager I thought my Online Recessionista Party was no different from any other event that I needed to promote. I was ready to advertise product, price, place and promotion via mass media outlets like facebook, linkedin and email. Hm…I wonder how much an ad in the local newspaper would cost me. Then came my first email from Recessionista regarding party preparation: “have conversations with your guests about the party.” Wait, I shouldn’t just blast out coupon codes? I learned why very quickly.

If your friends have attended a Recessionista Party before, you have an advantage. I live in Sunny Florida, where no one had ever attended a Recessionista Party. (Though, I changed all of that!) I could blast facebook messages to 113 of my closest girlfriends all day, but without an explanation of what exactly an Online Recesionista Party is, they are unlikely to respond. There is way too much SPAM floating around the internet–people have become desensitized. Actual communication is the only way to assure your friends that a bot hasn’t taken over your facebook account and started spamming Recessionista propaganda. Once they know that it is, in fact, you promoting savvy shopping, your facebook statuses can serve as a reminder.

While you’re conversing with your friends you may want to ask what day and time is good for them. Take notes and choose a time when the most people are going to be available. Don’t get too stressed out over this, because as with most things in life, you can’t always make everyone happy. Evites.com is a great way to send out a formal invitation and allow people to vote on which time is good for them. It also allows them to RSVP so that you can get an idea of how many people will be shopping. Gmail also allows you to create events and have people RSVP to them. If you go this route, be sure to communicate to your guests that you will be sending them an invitation that requires them to respond.

If you don’t already have some sweet Recessionista accessories on hand, you may want to purchase a few before you consider hosting a party. Bargain prices often go hand-in-hand with questionable quality. If you’ve already purchased and debuted your high-quality Recessionista scarves, jewelry, handbags and/or shoes, it’s much easier to assuage your friends’ nightmares about knock-off bags and jewelry that breaks before you ever get to wear it.

Now, enough about how to promote your Online Recessionista Party. You know your friends, you know what they’ll respond to and what they won’t respond to. Take my marketing advice with a grain of salt. However, what I’m about to say, I want you to take very seriously.

What I love about online Recessionista Parties

  • My long-distance friends could be a part of it. How often to you get to shop with your friends who live hundreds of miles away?
  • No one has to drop what they are doing to come over. Mom’s don’t have to find babysitters, students don’t have to find a way to fit the party into their busy schedules–even those who are working can sneak in a purchase or two! (Don’t worry, I won’t tell your boss.)
  • If your friends do want to drop what they are doing, you can always invite them over and you can shop online together. Set up a wireless network; the more computers the merrier.
  • The hostess (in this case me!) doesn’t have to clean her house or provide refreshments.
  • When you get your purchases in the mail and distribute them to your guests, it’s just as much fun as when you bought them–double the fun for the same price!
  • Recessionista has something for every budget, so your friends who are on a tighter budget don’t have to feel left out.

My Recessionista picks of the week

  • The burn out tee long sleeve in indigo and white
  • Flowered black necklace and earring set
  • Off white scarf (to go with the indigo burn out tee!)
  • Trendy green floral scarf (to go with the white burn out tee)

And so I leave you with a twist on Recessionista’s very own slogan…Savvy shopping is always a party–even on the internet!
