To comment or not, that is the question.

Blog commenting is a funny thing and I find that I have a love/hate relationship with that feature.  You see, on my personal blog, I’ve turned them completely off and kinda like it that way.  Of course, I love to get comments – I mean, who doesn’t?  But I also like to read blogs and not comment at all.  It takes the pressure of writing something clever, witty or memorable – or writing anything at all.  Sometimes, I just like things to effortless.  Some blogs I read the comments become more popular than the post and often times they take on a very negative  tone.  Why are there so many rude folks, mostly women, that feel so obliged to spew nastiness, I always wonder?

I’m glad none of them come over here.  Quite frankly, I’ve enjoy your comments and especially on the scarf giveaway.  I do read every comment that comes my way and always learn a thing or two.  And today, I’m going to post of few in case the rest of you don’t scroll through the comment section to read them yourself.

Heather Says:

Awesome! I like scarves, but I never really know how to use them as anything other than to keep warm in winter. It’d be nice to have a free one to work with.

Well, Heather, how about some linkage to help you on your way to becoming the scarf wearing, scarf tying, scarf stylin’ master?

Christa, from enSTYLEpedia has a few ideas here and even posted this tutorial found here.  Thanks Christa!  PS-love your blog and would love to have you contribute to Recessionista once in a while!

Scarves are so hot, they even have jokes about them!  Now, that’s getting serious.

Megan Santini Says:

A joke about a scarf:

Q: What did the big furry hat say to the warm woolly scarf?
A: “You hang around while I go on ahead.”

And YES, scarves are the P E R F E C T accessory for all you expecting mamas out there.

Katie Rees Says:

I love scarves. I fell in love with them while in Italy last winter and now I can’t get enough. A new scarf would be the perfect accessory for my pregnant belly!

Like I said, scarves are an inexpensive way to make any outfit go from drab to fab!

Andrea Says:

Oh a scarf would be lovely for those of us who love ‘em over necklaces we can’t afford!

Debra P Says:

Very lovely! A scarf would spice things up and add some fashion flair :)

Ashley Says:

A scarf is one of the best accessories!! They can make or break an outfit. I love them!

Joanna Smith Says:

I love love scarves! They are such a fun way to transform your look from ordinary to euro-chic! I feel very Kathryn Hepburn when I wear one! Thanks so much for the chance to enter.

Mary Says:

It is amazing how a scarf can make a whole new looking outfit!

Thanks of all your comments even if I have to bribe you with a giveaway!

Scarves are still $9 for a few more days and our last week for Soles4souls!

Helping Haiti – The Final Stretch….

We’re closing in on the last two weeks of our Soles4souls collaboration and the 50,000 shoes in 50 days for Haiti. As you will recall, we dramatically reduced ALL of our prices during this 50 day period and promised to donate a pair of shoes for every shoe sold.  Thank-you to everyone for your support and help in spreading the good word.

Soles4souls is a fantastic organization with remarkable people at the head working hard to make a difference in the lives of many who find themselves in unfortunate circumstances.  I love their slogan: Changing the world one pair at time. It really is just that simple.

We have 2 more weeks and then our prices will revert back to our regular pricing and our efforts in this specific partnership will come to an end.  Any purchases can be made on our shop and remember that 20% 0f non-shoe sales will be donated to the organization as well.  A win/win for all.

A Winner and a Big Thank-You

The winner of our handbag giveaway is Christina Bullock who I think is going to have a very good Valentine’s Day! Email me your details and I’m going back to the recessionistaparty(at)gmail(dot)com address.  I have a fancy business email but I really prefer my gmail account.  I know I’m confusing.

And can I just reiterate the words above in saying Thanks for helping us spread the word on our Soles 4 Souls project and just for being awesome readers?  Just last week alone, we were able to donate shoes in the hundreds.  And while I understand that everyone has a cause and passion at some point, I really appreciate the positive response to our desire to help out.  It’s not everyday that a company in its infancy gets to work directly with celebrities.  To us that’s exciting.  Sadly, not everyone feels that way, especially when it’s least expected.  I hope to never be that way.

In fact, I try to answer every email I receive (which can be overwhelming on some days) and read every comment.  If, by chance, I have failed to do so, then I apologize.  It was not intentional.  We have several very exciting local events going on today, tomorrow, Friday and Saturday.  If you would like details, please email me and If you would like us to direct your husband’s to our weekend guy’s bash, let us know.

Happy Wednesday!

Free Shoes for Everyone…..in Haiti!

There’s a spirit in giving and helping the human race that brings a sense of peace and serenity found no other place. When we reach out to our brothers and sisters who find themselves in unfortunate situations, our souls bond and together we experience the love this life was meant to create. Setting all nonsense aside, we reach beyond race, political preferences, gender or religious differences, across geographical barriers, to change lives and individuals, and most of all, to change ourselves. For a moment, we all find that joy we spend each day seeking.
We are honored to join forces with Soles4Souls, an organization dedicated to providing a way for all of God’s children to walk with covered feet, something that comes so easily to most of us. We believe in their mission and purpose. Likewise, we believe that by giving, we will become better people and a much better business. We have specifically collaborated with the 50,000 shoes project headed by Jessica Simpson, Ken Paves and Cacee Cobb. Together, we hope to accomplish this goal to provide 50,000 shoes in 50 days to the victims in Haiti.
While this is no small feat, we are confident that with your help we will succeed. We ask that you post the jpeg flyer on your own blogs and websites, post the new Recessionista/Soles4Souls button as well, and spread the word through facebook, email and twitter. The Internet is an amazing tool and can be used to spread so much goodness.
Our contribution: For the next 50 days, we will mark down all of our shoes to incredible prices and, reduce every item in our shop. For every shoe purchased, we will donate a shoe directly to Project Haiti up to 10,000 shoes. In addition, 20% of all our non-shoe sales will be donated as well. We encourage you all to help in any way you can. We thank-you in advance for helping and express our sincere gratitude for making our first 3 months online amazing. Someday, we’ll pull an “Oprah” and provide free shoes to everyone! Until then, we can start by sending shoes to Haiti.

Please help us spread the word! Here are 2 sizes to help. Simply copy and paste the code in your blog sidebar. If you need a different size, let us know. The 1st one is 125 x 125 and the second is 150 x 162.

Now go start shopping at Recessionista !

A collaboration and a new logo

I’m not really a starstruck person, not in the least. But when you’re building a business and someone of celebrity status recognizes you in any sort of way, it’s hard to not squeal like a 16 year girl at her first rock concert, literally melting to the ground. Thank-you Ken Paves for becoming a Recessionista follower via twitter and for the retweet love. You rock! And maybe, just maybe, one day you will to turn my hair to gold. (He does have that ability, you know.)

(lovin’ the profile pic)

Speaking of twitter, do you tweet, retweet, and share the tweeting love? I’ll admit, the twitter phenomenon sends me into a dither (just ask my pr guru) but I think I’m in love with twitter, deeply in love. Really, where else can you contact celebrities directly regarding their project or cause and get a direct message in return? There goes the 16-year old concert thing again.

Thanks to twitter, we found an incredible organization and became aware of a specific project that fit perfectly with our desires and goals. After many conversations and email exchanges, the official partnership between Recessionista and Soles4Souls has launched. What does this mean? Some amazing prices on our products (we’re doing some ridiculous price slashing) for 50 days, donating a portion of our sales, sending shoes to those in Haiti, seeking your help in spreading the good word and announcing some super exciting things. I will have more on that later today. In the meantime, checkout the
p u r d y
new logo celebrating this collaboration. You like? And check-out the prices in our shop. What’s not to like about that?

Don’t go away…..I’ll be right back.
