Easter Dress Inspiration

I haven’t purchased an Easter dress in so long that I honestly couldn’t tell you how long it’s been. But the warm weather and the sunny skies have got me thinking about a fresh Spring look for Easter weekend.  Spring colors, wide brim hats, and airy fabrics come to mind during this time of year and rather than giving you ideas for the perfect dress, I was inspired to just provide inspiration.

What colors and fabrics and accessories come to your mind during this time of year?

Trendy and Tech Savvy

My pinterest post got me thinking about how technology get a bad reputation, because it’s more geektastic than it is fabulous. There is so much a tech savvy lady can to these days to share knowledge and spread creativity Why let the geeky stigma hold you back when there are so many fabulous electronics that a fashionista would be proud to tote around?  In celebration of the tech savvy Recessionista, I’ve put together a little inspiration…

Do you have a techy toy that doubles as an accessory? Tell us about it in the comments!

The Sweater Dress – Who Wore it Best?

The sweater dress has been a Fall favorite for a very long time. I’m fairly certain that the sweater dress itself hasn’t gone out of style since it was originally invented sometime around the time I was born. The patterns and the fit have evolved– think about how the comeback of leggings has changed the way we wear the sweater dress– but the sweater dress remains a go-to look for Fall and Winter. So tell us ladies…

The hottest jackets for Fall 2010

This Fall, we suspect you’ll be rocking a semi-broad shouldered jacket with those high heel boots! (You know, the ones in suede or with laces?). The latest fashion for Fall is the boyfriend jacket and the Recessionista team is here to give you some inspiration on how to wear it.

What you need to know…

The boyfriend jacket, though made for women, has a slightly masculine cut around the shoulders. To keep the outfit from looking overly masculine, play up the femininity of the other things that you’re wearing. Delicate necklaces, rings that draw attention and matching earring and necklace sets are all feminine accessories that will help balance the masterpiece that is your outfit.

What to wear the boyfriend jacket with

Skinny jeans – Tights – Mini dresses and skirts

We know that these options seem a bit scandalous on the surface. Allow us to explain. Because of the masculine cut of the jacket, it looks best paired with fitted (please note that the difference between skintight and fitted is essentially the difference between flattering and not-s0-much. If you have any confusion regarding this, e-mail us or ask a friend!) pants/skirts and shirts. This will show off your feminine shape, even when wearing a broad(er) shouldered jacket.

Trend Tip Tuesday- The Wedge Sandal

Happy Tuesday after Memorial Weekend.  I hope you all a fabulous time and enjoyed much better weather than I.  Actually, yesterday the sun finally poked it’s head out of the clouds but just as I was really enjoying the warmth, the gray clouds took over and the rain poured down.  I’m trying to be optimistic for warmer weather.  I really am.

Another subject matter than tends to ruffle my feathers is that of heels and anything adding height to shoes.  You see, I’m quite lengthy in stature and so I fear in adding anything else to draw attention to the distance between my head and toes.  Don’t get me wrong, I love being 5′10″ and there are some definite perks but passing a little boy while walking down the hall in church and have him stare at me with ginormous eyes while matter-of-factly stating, “You’re rrrreally tall,” is not one of them!

What really stinks is that I tend to miss out on the best and most  stylish shoes that exist, namely the wedge sandal.  And before I hear anyone say that height doesn’t matter and that “a tree is a tree,” just stand next to me in a pair of towering wedges and you will take back whatever wisdom was about to spew from your mouth.

Here’s the deal, if I was able to sport the height on my feet, I would definitely choose the wedge over any other shoe for several reasons:

  • The Wedge Shoe never completely goes out of style.
  • There’s much more stability with a wedge over a heel.  Me trying to walk in heels is a sad sight for the eyes so I would surely go for the additional balance.
  • With more stability, I’m less likely to twist an ankle or fall flat on my face.
  • Wedges are more comfortable and I, being a practical person, will opt for comfort 8 out 10 times.
  • The Wedge is considered more casual and that means they are more versatile.
  • Last but not least – they HOT!  And really make every leg look sexy.

A few of my favorite looks….

I’m 100% positive that I would never wear these.
