To Re-purpose
It’s not secret that being thrifty these days is definitely “in” and nearly everyone is tapping into their creative powers to do things a little bit different. Of course, without compromising quality and style and in other words, be resourceful. Such an art is known as Re-purposing and has no limits as to what can be transformed. In fact, the more creative the better, right?
I could spend all day looking at the various ways people find to re-use items that only years ago most would have considered junk. Today, more people are sewing, painting, sanding, stapleing and frequently the DIY corners of the Internet while flooding the DIY stores. In fact, there’s an entire television network devoted to such projects and if I didn’t have anything better to do, I would lie lifeless on the couch and watch episode after episode. I find it that fascinating.
Today, I want to share with you some Re-purposed items that I find both brilliant and not too complex. After all, I’m all about simple and easy.
I came across this daybed quite a while ago on Design Sponge and thought it was such a brilliant creation that I saved. Seriously, isn’t it amazing?
Ashley from Make it and Love It is the queen of transforming old clothing into something fabulous. I envy her sewing skills and ability to make something from nothing.
Next, we have Amy from The Idea Room who has ideas spewing from every pore. Her door turned shelf on the left is brilliant. And how about transforming a used can into a lovely packing for fresh backed cookies? Not to mention the artist smock and dress from an man’s shirt or the nightgown made from a pillow case. In my next life I will be that creative.
Linda from Craftaholics Anonymous is brilliant with zippers, the hot new accessory item right now. Check out her creations here. And who would of thought that burlap would be such a cool necklace?
Then we have Carly from Chuckles and Grins who, quite frankly, has the ability to make anything useful and fabulous.
And this only begins to scratch the surface of all the endless possibilities involving the art to Re-purpose. Caution though, it’s extremely addicting but equally satisfying to see how resourceful one can be.
Spring Cleaning
Posted in organization, spring cleaning on 04/26/2010 08:26 am by Recessionista PartyI love Spring. Everything about it. It’s as if the world is waking up from giant winter slumber with a glorious outlook on the future. I love watching people slowly creep out their homes at the slightest hint of warmth and sunshine. I love green lawns, birds chirping, buds sprouting and bright blue skies that promise everything the cold and dreary winter has managed to hide away.
But more than anything, I love that it’s a time to de-clutter, reorganize, simplify and make our lives easier, cleaner and happier. I don’t know about you but I find that it’s so easy to accumulate and allow nonsense and junk to cloud our homes and minds, making it impossible to focus and enjoy the simple joys that really make life worth living. And having little ones around only intensifies all of that.
Last year, I was on a mission to clear out, clean up, rearrange, sort, toss, and organize my life. I spent weeks rummaging through toys, clothes, papers, and more stuff than I knew lived within the walls of my home. Then I held my very first (and last) garage sale to let others pay me to haul away my unwanted junk, and what a feeling to watching my “stuff” find a new home. Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity.
This year, I’m on a different sort of mission to not only clean and organize, but to find a way to use what I already have and perhaps use in a way I never would have thought I could. This will involve cutting and sewing as well as spray painting and sanding, tapping into my creative brain, but I’m determined to be resourceful this year and it’s going to make my spring cleaning even more exciting. I think you should do the same.
In honor of my birthday week, I’m going to give you all a little something every single day. Today, I’m sharing with you a new site I fumbled across while browsing online. There’s a great section on spring cleaning as well with some fantastic tips. Enjoy!
In return, I would love for you to comment or email me any and all of your absolute “must read” sites cuz sharing is caring and it makes everyone happy.

Refer a friend and earn Rista Bucks
Posted in Refer a Friend Program on 04/22/2010 08:57 am by Recessionista PartyIt’s no secret that our friends become our best source for information and good finds. Being somewhat out of the loop in a lot of ways, I always rely on my friends to share their secrets, inform me of new deals and keep me up to speed in so many ways. I think we are all that way and want to tell the world when we’ve found a good thing, right?
In fact, Recessionista is where we are today largely in part to the goodness of those who love us most. We value our fans and want to share in the joy that spreading the good word creates. Therefore, we are implementing a new refer-a-friend program Rista (short for Recessionista) style where you get something back for doing what you already do.
In a nutshell, here’s how it will work. When you refer a friend to Recessionista, we will email them a Crazy-coupon-code where they will enjoy a phenomenal new customer discount and in return, you will earn 5 Rista bucks for every friend you refer. It’s easy and simple but just a way to say Thank-you for sharing the love and making our journey bright and wonderful. For every 5 friends you refer that redeem their coupon codes, you earn an additional $5 in Rista Bucks. Think of all that loot you could get for free!
For the test phase of our referral program, we are limiting numbers so please email me if you are interested. We will gladly give $5 in Rista Bucks to those willing to be our testers.

Since then we have received countless emails nearly begging to bring them back at their discounted sale price. As always on the Recessionista Shop, we have $5 flat rate shipping or free shipping on all orders over $75. Buy two pair and they ship for free.
