Jeans – revisited

It’s no secret that I’m a jean-loving kind of gal as I have expressed that many times throughout this blog.  Strangely, I actually think that jeans somehow define who I am and what I’m all about.  In fact, I just took this fun little jean quiz because it said

“What’s stitched on your bum say a lot about you.”

Well, of course, I was curious and wanted to know what my bum has been saying about me all these years.  And to think that Seventeen Magazine has held all the answers and I never knew.

Without haste, I quickly answered each question, regardless how silly they ALL seemed.  My bum’s been talking and I had no idea.  Afterall, our bum in jeans is what we really care most about, right?

Voila, my results:

Go take the quiz yourself

Right here

And come tell me your results.

And another fun quiz that will show you which brands and styles fit your shape the best can be found here.

Skinny jean update:

I fought the skinny jean thing long and hard and am here to officially report that I now own two pair and LOVE ‘em.  I have the Addie and the Ellie and wear them both all the time. For those of you that are still on the fence, deciding whether the trip back to 1985 is really something you want to do, I’m here to tell you it is and to just do it!

Don’t think you have the right shape?  Afraid you can’t pull it off?  I will tell you that our jeans are somewhat magical, I swear.  I mean they continue to miraculously fit and flatter every shape and size.  While I’m not claiming they hold any magical dust that will suddenly land a pot of gold on your doorstep, I swear they’re like the jeans in this movie in that they fit everyone perfectly. Really, and I don’t swear often. (well, not very often)

PS – I think you’re really going to like the tomorrow’s weekly special:)

Manic Monday

Weekends are so nice and this last one was both productive and restful, if those two words can be used simultaneously.  And here we are with a new day and a new week.  That, too, is something to celebrate at there’s a whole week of the unknown and hopes of things to accomplish.

We’re going to start sticking to a regular schedule over here at the Recessionista blog and it will go a little something like this:

Monday - will serve as our weekly sound-off and content will vary depending on the week.  In other words, I will keep you in suspense and surprise you from time to time:)  How’s that for a start to your week?

Tuesday – will be our Trend Tip Day, similar to what’s been done in the past, where I will highlight a new trend, style or brand that meets the Recessionista approval.  One that’s still in the works (per readers’ requests) is fashion tips for the expecting mothers.  Luckily, I have a million (OK just 14) S-I-L’s (half that were/are pregnant this year) to help with this one. Interested in a particular trend or have a burning question?   Let it be known and I’ll do my best.

Wednesday – is where I will announce our Weekly Special that will run for an entire week and those of you that have been around a while know that those I’m not kidding around with the work “special.” In fact, it should read Weekly STEAL because they’re usually that awesome.

Thursday - is when I will announce the giveaway winner from the previous week unless I decided to announce it earlier.  Also, Thursdays will be the fun, ever-changing day where I will share some other Recessionista-type tips (like the jewelry displays, headband organizer, etc..) and when we will do guest posts, blog hop parties (this is going to be fun), link- ups, RPDD and so much more.  Thursday, I feel, is going to be my favorite day!

Friday – TGIF is when we will announce the weekly giveaway.  Yes, that’s right, we will be hosting a new giveaway every single week.  And they’re going to get crazy and fun!  Speaking of which, should you be interested in contributing to our giveaways with something of your own in exchange for some FREE exposure to your shop, site or blog, email me s’il vous plait!

THE WEEKEND – as with everyone, I’ll be enjoying the weekend away from the blog scouting out my own Recessionista Deals.  I’m dying for garage sales to start and thrift store shopping because I have an minor obsession that involves revamping other people’s junk.  There are treasures to be found.

Don’t Forget the Motherload Giveaway that will end a week from Thursday!

ps – is the blog loading slow for you?  And for some reason, when we transferred to Wordpress, all the tagging got messed up which I’m hoping is why the linked in plug-in isn’t working.  I will be working on that but am open for suggestions.

Headband Storage Ideas and a Giveaway

Since we’re talking about headbands, how about cheap and easy ways to store the lovelies?

Decorative Bolster Pillows from Banner Boutique.

Or re-purpose your empty oatmeal carton into something fabulous.  An easy tutorial found here.  In helping my S-I-L get a display ready for a boutique, I made one myself and it was super easy and turned out perfect!

See how cute?

Thanks to a reader for leaving this link on making your own headband

And another easy tutorial found here.

Speaking of headbands, I’d like to give one to a commenter on yesterday’s post.

Sheryl Coe Says:

I LOVE seeing women in headbands. I’m just not sure it I can pull them off, or have enough guts too! (sigh) Sometimes I just wish I was more daring in my wardrobe/accessory choices, because I am SO digging the zipper flower headband styles right now.

Sheryl – email me your info….a zipper headband is coming your way!

And I’m giving another one to the first person to successfully answer the following three questions about me correctly.  You can submit as many entries as you like but all three questions must have the correct answers in the same comment.  Make sense?

With your first entry, please visit our shop and tell me your favorite headband along with your answers.

Questions and your trying to answer them about me not  you:

  1. What did I eat for breakfast?
  2. What book am I currently reading?
  3. When is my birthday?

Good luck and have a great weekend!

The Headband Trend is Alive & Thriving

It’s no secret that headbands are the hot accessory item right now.  In fact, I’ve been shocked at some of the flamboyant headbands currently filling the fashion.  Go see for yourself here and here.

Just like the scarves, headbands are a very inexpensive way to spice up your spring wardrobe.  For under $10, you can completely transform an entire outfit.  Just like every great trend, we have a Hollywood Elite to thank, and I’m sure we can give a generous one to the fictional Blair Waldorf and her Upper East Side posse for truly rockin’ the headband scene.

Now don’t be mistaken, headbands ARE indeed for everyone.  Think you can’t pull it off? Think again.  Even the semi-plain, boring, non-fashion conscious people like myself can sport the do, and sport it well.  In fact, I even go as far as sometimes sharing headbands with my 7 year old!  How’s that for fashionable?

Go check out the new headband arrivals over at The Recessionista Shop.  My personal favorites are this, this and this.  Not only are they super cute but, even better, they don’t hurt my head.

And don’t forget the “blogparty” 20% coupon code that is valid through the weekend.  This makes all the new headbands under $8!  What a deal, indeed.

Now, tell me, are you a headband fan?  Simple?  The bigger the better? Or a mixture between the two?  (teaser….u may want to comment today….)

The Online Shopping Craze

(source)

I’m going to straight with you today and confess that I hate shopping – hate everything about it. So much that my worst nightmare would be to end up stranded all night inside the mall with no way out, a fright-mare indeed.  I don’t know if it’s because a) I live in a small city where the shopping is rather pathetic, b) if I can’t stand the crowds or c) knowing how marked up EVERYTHING is and therefore realize how much I am being ripped off.  Whatever the reason, I don’t like it at all.

Online shopping, on the other hand, is something I prefer for a number a reasons:

  1. I can sit in my bed, laptop by my side and browse through the online stores and fill my cart endlessly – all without ever checking out or spending a dime.  Sometimes that is just as satisfying.
  2. When I do actually complete the checkout process, I love that items come right to my door cuz I’m lazy like that and who doesn’t like personal service?
  3. Coupon codes are always floating through cyberspace and my rule is if I can’t find one for the store I want then I don’t need what I think I do badly enough.
  4. Shopping online is totally GREEN – and you know how “cool” it is to claim participation in that one!  Just google the endless articles about how much gas is saved when ordering online vs. driving to and from the store, not to mention the physical energy that is saved!
  5. I don’t have to try anything on, not that I ever do that anyway.  I’m famous for buying and trying on at home then returning what doesn’t fit.  See when I do go shopping, it’s really In and Out style.
  6. I never have to worry about mixing a toddler tantrum and shopping experience which is, quite possibly, the biggest advantage of all!

Where do you prefer to shop?

Do you love the malls?

Do you shop online?

What is your criteria before making an online purchase?

So how do you take an outfit to the next level?Recessionista Pic1

Everyone has a plain tee and jeans, right?
This vibrant statement necklace screams

“Spring i love you, what took you so long?!”

Add the sandal wedges, (hello sexy mama!) you have the “next level”.
Speaking of spring… is that spring dress calling your name? Yeah, me too.

Want a new way to rock that spring dress?

DENIM.

but not in a jacket or on your legs…in your shoes…

Sounds 90’s but trust me, with the right style you can rock this trend.

Recessionista-Spring Flair

Fun, flirty and sooooo cute, this headband can become your staple pop-of-color.

If that looks is out of your comfort zone, what about keeping it classic and cool with black and white?  Recessionista- B,S,POP

Playdate, errands, picnic, PTA -you can wear this look to all of these and more and what’s more fun than colorful nail polish? It makes everyone smile.

These accessories really are classic and you will find yourself wearing them constantly.  It’s my experience, that nothing can make you look more put together quicker than earrings and having a pair that goes with everything is key

silver and gold go with everything you own, get a pair of each,

really, right now!

when you’re wearing a shirt that has some great detail
you don’t want to overwhelm the beauty of the shirt with a necklace
so turn to a great cuff bracelet

Recessionista-Silver&Gold
This adds some shine to your outfit
you can show off your personal style with a cuff you love
and you’ll look so put together!

one more simple solution to looking great without a lot of time
(let’s face it, we’re all pretty busy at times)
The Recessionista Jeans!
They are beautiful all on their own.
The embellishments on the pockets are gorgeous and they are cut to flatter and come in great styles.

I think not.
