To comment or not, that is the question.

Blog commenting is a funny thing and I find that I have a love/hate relationship with that feature.  You see, on my personal blog, I’ve turned them completely off and kinda like it that way.  Of course, I love to get comments – I mean, who doesn’t?  But I also like to read blogs and not comment at all.  It takes the pressure of writing something clever, witty or memorable – or writing anything at all.  Sometimes, I just like things to effortless.  Some blogs I read the comments become more popular than the post and often times they take on a very negative  tone.  Why are there so many rude folks, mostly women, that feel so obliged to spew nastiness, I always wonder?

I’m glad none of them come over here.  Quite frankly, I’ve enjoy your comments and especially on the scarf giveaway.  I do read every comment that comes my way and always learn a thing or two.  And today, I’m going to post of few in case the rest of you don’t scroll through the comment section to read them yourself.

Heather Says:

Awesome! I like scarves, but I never really know how to use them as anything other than to keep warm in winter. It’d be nice to have a free one to work with.

Well, Heather, how about some linkage to help you on your way to becoming the scarf wearing, scarf tying, scarf stylin’ master?

Christa, from enSTYLEpedia has a few ideas here and even posted this tutorial found here.  Thanks Christa!  PS-love your blog and would love to have you contribute to Recessionista once in a while!

Scarves are so hot, they even have jokes about them!  Now, that’s getting serious.

Megan Santini Says:

A joke about a scarf:

Q: What did the big furry hat say to the warm woolly scarf?
A: “You hang around while I go on ahead.”

And YES, scarves are the P E R F E C T accessory for all you expecting mamas out there.

Katie Rees Says:

I love scarves. I fell in love with them while in Italy last winter and now I can’t get enough. A new scarf would be the perfect accessory for my pregnant belly!

Like I said, scarves are an inexpensive way to make any outfit go from drab to fab!

Andrea Says:

Oh a scarf would be lovely for those of us who love ‘em over necklaces we can’t afford!

Debra P Says:

Very lovely! A scarf would spice things up and add some fashion flair :)

Ashley Says:

A scarf is one of the best accessories!! They can make or break an outfit. I love them!

$9 Scarves….what a deal!

Scarves are hot fashion trend all year round.  It’s the one trend that knows no age or personal style boundaries.  Scarves are so versatile and will easily make any drab outfit look fabulous.  They can be the most inexpensive yet effective accessory to every woman’s wardrobe.

Not only are they made for the neck, but see how your scarf looks as a waste sash or knotted belt.

What’s even better, is that all our scarves are $9, a price that will last for a week.

You can see our full selection here

Ever wondered different ways to tie your scarf?

Thanks to the above drawings found here, I’ve even learned a few new scarf-knotting tricks.

When or Why Do You Shop?

Depression Shopping

Hi everyone! First off this is Angela from Mommy PR. I tend to straggle my little end over here to Recessionista Party every so often, and today i wanted to share some points of a story i came across and get your opinion on it.

So i was “google”ing and “bing”ing around the “internets” (sorry always wanted to say that)… i kept trying to find information on “What Are Women Splurging On In The Recession”. I figured i would find stories on how moms cut back on steak, or reused panty hose for potting plants. (<– Dont you judge me lol).

Well instead i came across the SAME article several several times. (Either these people interviewed the same women, or we have a super story on our hands….). I want to get your opioion on these findings. This was dated for May 2009, so consider your answer to be relevant of one year later.

A survey, carried out by Karen Pine, Professor from the University of Hertfordshire and the author of Sheconomics, revealed that 79 per cent of women reported that they would go on a spending spree in order to cheer themselves up. Out of the 700 women who took part in the survey, 4 out of 10 (40 per cent) said that it was ‘depression’, and 6 out of 10 (60 per cent) named ‘feeling a little bit low’, to be the main reason for them to throw some cash on the clothes that they do not really need and spend extra money on.

Almost 50 per cent of the British ladies admitted that recession made them feel scared or even terrified, while 45 per cent said that their financial situation had taken a serious hit because of the recession and crisis in the economy. The survey also found that the three quarters of the women have already considered cutting back on spending money in the nearest future. But the overwhelming majority expressed the opinion that shopping has the power to make them feel much better.

Professor Pine and her colleagues came to the conclusion that some women use shopping in order regulate their emotions and keep them under control, they use it as a way of dealing with negative feelings or dissatisfaction with life. The experts said that this ability to be in control of one’s emotions is critical for mental and physical well-being and human beings adopt a variety of possibilities of doing so, such as using drugs and alcohol, for example. Shopping appears to be one of these methods that has increasingly been adopted by many women. So worrying about finances could, no matter how paradoxically it may sound, lead women to spend more.

Is your face puzzled?? Mine was! But then i have to look back.. shoot they are right! With my hubby gone so much (military), i DO tend to migrate to those “Super Saturday Sales” more often when i need a pick me up emotionally. Hum.

{Oh and just for the record, after living in Italy for 4 years, im sure that those British ladies make more than us, so i would probably spend their money faster in a 12-18 month deployment lol.}

So what about you? Are you more of a shop when you want to gal? Eat a bowl of your moms super famous, feel good, chicken noodle soup? Or check the balance on that maxed out credit card, cause your in the mood to shop instead of cry? (and if your the “my BF just broke up with me but forgot his credit card at my house” type girl.. here is the link to the wonderful Recessionista Party Shop).

Fashionistas.. tell me your views. Its 2010. How is your economy? Still shopping and very thankful for places like Recessionista Party?

What have you kept the same and what have you changed (shopping wise).

{Talk about YOU, not your husband or kids.. Its all about the ladies today}

Ps- I will still be shopping!! I will say that i have changed WHERE i shop. I love my Coach, but i like it even better when i can put more money in it , than what i spend on it. (hint– Buy Coach At Recessionista Party!)

Thanks for your time ladies! You can visit me anytime over at Mommy PR and of course i will pop in on Recessionista Party! I look forward to your answers!

Helping Haiti – The Final Stretch….

We’re closing in on the last two weeks of our Soles4souls collaboration and the 50,000 shoes in 50 days for Haiti. As you will recall, we dramatically reduced ALL of our prices during this 50 day period and promised to donate a pair of shoes for every shoe sold.  Thank-you to everyone for your support and help in spreading the good word.

Soles4souls is a fantastic organization with remarkable people at the head working hard to make a difference in the lives of many who find themselves in unfortunate circumstances.  I love their slogan: Changing the world one pair at time. It really is just that simple.

We have 2 more weeks and then our prices will revert back to our regular pricing and our efforts in this specific partnership will come to an end.  Any purchases can be made on our shop and remember that 20% 0f non-shoe sales will be donated to the organization as well.  A win/win for all.
