Accessorizing a Hat for Spring

(source)

During a morning Internet search, I came across this article and decided to share.  While I tend to think the fashion industry involves way to much thinking -over-thinking- and I usually break every rule, there are some decent points worth sharing.  Who knew there could be such a formula to wearing a hat and accessorizing it perfectly with each outfit?  Who knew?

Add Sparkle to Colors and Color to Neutrals

  1. Add a white or beige ribbon to a colored hat to give even a winter-colored hat a bright, spring look. This is a good way to turn a sensible navy blue or burgundy cap from a winter-wardrobe staple into a nautical-looking accessory.
  2. Take the brooch you wore during the winter, or borrow a tiepin, and secure it firmly in the front and center of the crown of your spring hat. For floppy, straw styles, place a sparkly brooch low on the crown, almost where it meets the brim. For tailored, stiff styles, place the brooch either equidistant from the top and bottom of the crown or at the top of the crown for a bold, elegant style.
  3. Buy a scarf that matches your cap, and wear the scarf at your throat, through the belt loops of your jeans or slacks, or even tied around your wrist in a fabric bracelet. This is an easy, coordinated way to upgrade any outfit, and it can even work with walking shorts and casual shirts.

See what I mean?  A little to much thinking.  In my opinion, I say pick the hat you like most and wear it.  End.of.story.  Sometimes I think this is how it should be with everything.  Oh there’s more.

Accessorize With Shoes, Belts and Bags

  1. Match your hat, if you want a tailored appearance, to your shoes, your belt or your handbag. However, do not match it to all three, as this will create a “splotchy” appearance, and the eye will be attracted to each of your accessories in turn. Matching the hat to one wardrobe item will pull the hat into the outfit without overdoing it.
  2. Wear bright lipsticks with bright hats. After you do your makeup, try your hat on in the bathroom mirror. If you are wearing a berry red or plum-colored hat, you may need to add a little more color to your face.
  3. Accessorize with a fabric belt pulled from a favorite dress and tied around your hat for an instantly complete outfit. Also, remove any fabric flowers and secure them to the hat. Extra buttons that come with clothing can do double-duty as hat accessories.

Warning:

Accessorize a spring hat lavishly if your outfit does not have many embellishments, and keep your hat simple if your clothes sport flowers, bows or other eye-catching accessories. You don’t want to look like a fabric explosion. At garden parties, however, it’s acceptable to go a bit over the top in the way of romantic flourishes.

Hat Sale

Our knit hats, in all styles, have been by far the most popular items we’ve carried.  The first batch we ordered, we weren’t really sure, but when we couldn’t stock them fast enough, we knew that definitely hats were in.  Afterall, Savvy Stylista told us so.  Remember this post?

I have since LOVED (with great big bold capital letters) them the most.  I wear them almost everyday and thank the hat God above for sending them my way.  They’re cute, stylish and oh so comfortable.  And they are now this week’s special.

We have marked down all of our hats…every style….to $9.00!  In addition, there will be FREE SHIPPING on all orders over $20.

Recessionista Party

A Recessionista Gathering is unlike any party you’ve ever attended. We, literally, bring the shopping to you. We fill each location with shoes, handbags and various accessories with jaw-dropping prices. It’s easy, fun and quite frankly, a bit challenging to keep up with all hosting requests. Once a person hosts a party in their neighborhood/area, they become the permanent hostess for that area. The inventory is always changing and you will find people keep coming back for more. We love our hostesses!

Our Goal: For each hostess to have a fun, stress-free environment with their friends, where the ultimate celebration is the bargains and deals to be found. The hostess’ only responsibility is a fabulous turnout. We do the work and the products speak for themselves. We supply the invitations, the music, the drinks and the entire set-up. We work with each location to produce a fabulous presentation.

Refreshments: There is always the question regarding food. What we have learned is that when food is present, it’s never eaten anyway. Everyone is too focused on the shoes and accessories. Ultimately, we leave that decision up to you but recommend something small if anything at all.

What You Earn: Our party sales average from $1200 – $2700 or about 30-60 pairs of shoes at an average of $40/shoe. With a given 30-60 guests we estimate about 1-2 pairs per customer. As a host, you will received 10% ($120-$270) in free product, including a $50 credit to the host offering her home, once the party reaches $500.

Co-hosting: We highly encourage co-hosting as it increases sales and your in-store credit. Ask a friend or two to send out some invites and then decide how you want to split the earnings. You can offer co-hosts whatever you would like to as an incentive. Although you’ll be sharing your credit, you will find that you will earn more due to a larger turnout. (We have had some hosts allow their co-hosts to use the amount of store credit their guests purchased, while others have done a flat incentive like a free pair of shoes for inviting ten guests, etc..)

Invites: We use two types of invitations: hand invites and email. We currently use Pingg invites and they work very well if your guests regularly check their e-mail. They serve as a reference with pictures and links for your guests to view sample inventory, with a direct link to this blog. Most of our hostesses use a combination of both invites. We generally prefer to send them out at least 4-5 days in advance. We will provide a user name and password for the e-vites and will deliver the paper invites once the guest list is confirmed.

***For large groups, we suggest dividing the party into specific times. For example, if you choose 6-8, invite one group from 6-7 and another from 7-8. Group guests with people they know as they will enjoy shopping together. This can help avoid too many guests arriving at the same time.

The Product: Our shoe prices range from $9.99-$199.99 and are priced 40% off retail, capping at $199.99. Some of the higher-end priced shoes actually end up being more than 50% off the retail price. Sizes range from 5-11 and include the following categories:

  • Novelty dress shoe/boot – $19.99 -$99.99
